Meet Ella – The Physique Academy Fitness & Behaviour Change Phsychologis

When did you begin your fitness journey?

Ella is the latest edition to the Physique Academy team. She educated both coaches and clients on behaviour changes to ensure our coaches hold all the skills needed to ensure our clients are both physically and mentally prepared for whatever challenges they may face on their program.

Ultimately, behaviour change is identity change. By integrating evidence-based behavioural science and psychology principles into the coaching program, we aim to support every client to become the person they want to be.

Who are you and what is your title at Physique Academy?

Hi I’m Ella, I’m a psychologist who specialises in Behaviour Change. At Physique Academy, I work to ensure the programme is psychologically informed so that clients like you have the best chance of success. I also work closely with the coaches to support them with their development, so that they can be the best they can for you.

When did you start your professional career in this industry?

I’ve been on the path to being a psychologist since 2012. When I finished my degree, I also qualified as a nutritionist and began working in the fitness industry. Over the last 8 years I’ve worked with several professional sport teams, as well as with many individuals wanting to change their health and fitness behaviours for good.

What do you bring to Physique Academy?

I bring a very different skillset to Physique Academy. I work behind the scenes to make sure the support that we offer clients is continually improving. I also work to incorporate behaviour change principles through the programme and work closely with the coaches to ensure we are supporting client wellbeing and long-lasting change.

Why should people join Physique Academy?

If people want to work with a coach who will really care about them and support them through their journey, then Physique Academy is the place to go.

What advice would you give to people starting their fitness journey?

My advice would be to start slow and small and build from there. Be patient with yourself and watch how small consistent actions can compound over time to have huge impacts. Also, try not to compare yourself to others. Your journey is unique and therefore it’s important that you take things at your own pace and not worry about what works for anyone else.

Where does psychology and mentality fit within a program such as Physique Academy?

Ultimately, behaviour change is identity change. By integrating evidence-based behavioural science and psychology principles into the coaching program, we aim to best help people like you. Psychology is a key part of this process, without factors like adherence, motivation, confidence and self-regulation it is really hard to achieve your goals. Therefore, we make sure that psychology is also at the heart of what we do.

What impact does a fitness program have on your mentality?

Through working closely with a coach, you can develop more confidence in your ability to succeed in your goals.

What’s the best thing about being a part of Physique Academy?

The best thing about being part of Physique Academy is getting to be part of a team of great coaches and people.
